How to Choose Your First AI Operations Use Case

May 19, 2026

The best first AI use case is rarely the most ambitious one. It is the workflow where the business pain is real, the boundary can be defined, and the team can measure whether the work improved.

Verdify looks for use cases with enough volume to matter and enough structure to supervise.

A practical screen

Good first workflows tend to have five traits:

  • Repetition: the work happens often enough to justify design effort.
  • Context: the AI can read useful source material without hunting across uncontrolled systems.
  • Bounded action: the AI can summarize, classify, draft, route, or recommend before it executes.
  • Human or system authority: an approval path or system of record can remain authoritative.
  • Measurable outcome: cycle time, acceptance rate, exception backlog, trace completeness, or quality can be scored.

Bad first workflows are usually broad, politically messy, irreversible, poorly instrumented, or dependent on data nobody trusts.

Examples that usually fit

Support triage, product feedback routing, chargeback classification, supplier document review, complaint intake, field-service exception review, and quality evidence assembly are often better first workflows than open-ended “agentic automation.”

Use the AI Workflow Risk Check to pressure-test a candidate workflow, or start with a Bounded AI MVP Sprint once the workflow is clear.
